Becoming a researcher is a path that very few people take in the present world due to the high competition, limitation of research grants and narrow down career pathway. If you are willing to become a good researcher in future, you are in the right place.
There are three types of researchers in the world. Some of them would like to do scientific experimental, mathematical and modeling research based on a set of data, which is known as quantitative research. Others would like to do social data gathering, surveys, interviews, observations based on set of data, which is known as qualitative research. When you are becoming an outstanding researcher, you might play with both quantitative and qualitative research studies combined together as projects.
Becoming a “good researcher” doesn’t mean you are going to finish everything as quickly as possible. In several decades back because there were very few researchers in the world with financial strength to conduct their research. During good old days, many people did research as a hobby and a leisure time activity to keep themselves occupied. However, nowadays world is changing and evolving very fast and whose whom have sound academic background, research experience as well as passion to do research will be given the first priority. Lets say if you have no research experience at all, then you should at least have a sound academic background to work under a research grant. If not you need to become a self-funded person to work under a research grant in many occasions. This is just the beginning.
You need to have patience to become a good researcher because things may or may not happen as we expect and as we calculate theoretically during the research. That is the main thing that we need to understand. Be careful about those whom manipulate data to comply with the theories, because in real world we cannot change as it was. Therefore integrity is another quality that you should have to become a good researcher. When you are doing a research, you will definitely get bored even though you are passionate on that because you are focusing on one thing for a long period of time. Therefore to maintain your consistency is very important to become a good researcher. For that many researchers focus on hobbies, physical activities such as sports, yoga, meditation, going out, traveling, etc. Finally to become a good researcher you should have good written and oral communication skills. You will develop these skills more when you are working under a research supervisor.
